Opportunity and Earnings Potential

INSPIRE AFRICA has recently launched a new service aimed directly at African healthcare professionals. Specifically, it has a ‘guaranteed US job’ programme whereby a nurse who meets certain eligibility criteria can apply to study at a top US university, complete a 1-year’s master’s programme and then walk into a guaranteed job.

The job is a 3-year contract with INSPIRE AFRICA’s US partner. The job’s minimum starting salary of $60,000, rising to potentially as high as $75,000, depending on the candidate’s particular specialism and experience. During the 3-year contract period, the candidate can choose to convert their F-1 visa into an Eb-3 visa, which confers permanent residency.

Additionally, candidates can work part-time while studying, up to a max. of 20 hrs per week during term time (40 hrs per week during holidays). Since USA has minimum wage legislation, students can expect to earn anywhere between $580 per month (a low estimate based on a minimum wage job at $7.25/hour) and $2,400 per month (specialized work). The average is $800-$1,200 per month (at $10-$15/hour, tutoring earns more than foodservice).

At the end of the fixed 3-year contract, the candidate will be able to more double their earnings.

  • Nurses with a master’s degree earn about 50% more than nurses with only a bachelor’s degree (median annual salary: $120,680, average annual salary: $129,480)

  • Highest-paying specialties: Anesthaesia ($184,015 average annual salary), Psychiatry ($125,362 average annual salary)

  • Metropolitan areas offer higher salaries than rural (Highest-paying states: California, Alaska, New York compared to Lowest-paying states: West Virginia, Arkansas)

  • Industries where jobs are in greatest demand: Hospitals and health systems, Outpatient care centres, Physician offices, Nursing care facilities, Educational institutions, Public health agencies
